Join the Smashing Pumpkins Billy Corgan is in search of two band members to complete The Smashing Pumpkins lineup, according to an announcement on the band's website March 9. Bassists and keyboardists interested in playing with the band are invited to send in background info for the chance to compete in an open audition process. Corgan previously relied on open auditions to recruit the band's current drummer, Mike Byrne, who was 19 when he earned the role, after original drummer Jimmy Chamberlain left the band. Now, bassist Ginger Pooley is ready to leave the band to raise a family, and bassist Mark Tulin of The Electric Prunes is filling in on an interim basis. As for the keyboardist, Corgan wishes to add to the band's ever-changing lineup; potential recruits are asked to come equipped with a progressive rock style along the lines of Deep Purple's Jon Lord and Yes's Rick Wakeman. Says Corgan of the auditions, "We were lucky enough to find drummer Mike Byrne through an open audition process, so why not open the doors again to anyone who might be interested for the bass or keyboard position. As you can see from our past and present, age, race, or a person's background is not an issue. Everyone is truly welcome to audition." Interested musicians are asked to send background info (including age, a resume of any bands/recorded work), photos, and performance web links to pumpkinsbass@gmail.com or pumpkinskeys@gmail.com by March 31. The band also revealed that that world tour dates are soon to be announced. Corgan is currently at work on a 44-song project called Teargarden by Kaleidyscope, of which three songs have been released so far. Courtesy www.smashingpumpkins.com | Squeeze To Receive Heritage Music Award Squeeze will be honored by the PRS for Music Heritage Award; a special plaque will be erected in South East London where the original group Chris Difford, Glenn Tilbrook, Jools Holland, Harry Kakoulli and Paul Gunn first performed, at the Greenwich Dance Hall in 1975. Difford said "I'm humbled that the birthplace of Squeeze has been chosen to be marked in this way." Co-founders Difford and Tilbrook will be present to see the plaque unveiled in Greenwich on Tuesday March 23rd at 2.30pm. Both local lads, Tilbrook said: "It's a pleasure to return to the place where we performed as Squeeze way back in 1975, I still buy my cheese just up the road!" Over the course of their career Squeeze have had hits in both the UK and US including "Cool for Cats", "Tempted", "Labeled With Love", "Black Coffee", "Hourglass" and "Up The Junction". Their 'kitchen-sink drama' lyrics and new wave music, as well as their effortless chemistry, saw Difford and Tilbrook referred to as "the new Lennon and McCartney". The PRS for Music Heritage Award marks the start of an exciting 2010 as Squeeze are set for their first extensive tours of the US and the UK in over 10 years, having only sporadically gigged since they reformed in 2007. PRS for Music set up the Heritage Award last year to recognize the unusual 'performance birthplaces' of famous bands and artists. Squeeze is the fourth band to be given the honor of receiving the permanent plaque, following in the footsteps of Blur, Dire Straits and Jethro Tull. PRS for Music Chairman, Ellis Rich said: "With its two very talented song writers, Squeeze has made an incredible contribution to the British music scene across three decades. Many of today's most commercially successful and credible artists, ranging from Razorlight, Ron Sexsmith and Kasabian have all cited them as a major influence so it's a real pleasure to be honoring them with the PRS for Music Heritage Award." Courtesy music-news.com | iBuzzNews - Authorities say R&B singer D'Angelo was caught in Greenwich Village trying to pay $40 for sex with an undercover cop posing as a prostitute.Police said Monday that the 36-year-old entertainer, whose real name is Michael Archer, was arrested early Saturday morning while behind the wheel of his Range Rover.
D'Angelo's manager said in a statement that he had pleaded not guilty and would fight the charges. The statement said the singer hopes the public will "allow the American justice system to resolve the matter before jumping to any conclusions." - Pink Floyd is taking legal action against their record label EMI because people can now download their individual tracks instead of an entire album. According to the Pink Floyd and EMI contract, EMI cannot 'unbundle' the songs meaning that songs not released as singles can only be purchased on a complete album.
EMI argues that because of the time when the contract was signed (pre the digital age) the clause did not apply to downloads such as through iTunes. Pink Floyd signed the contract in 1999 and the contract prohibits the songs from being taken out of context. EMI claims that it only applies to physical releases. Pink Floyd’s lawyer Robert Howe argues that the EMI stance makes no sense. Last year the band sued the label for miscalculating their royalties. - will.i.am is a big believer than with success also comes the responsibility to give to charity.
The Black Eyed Peas star – who set up the i.am scholarship fund to fund college education for underprivileged teenagers two years ago – believes it is important to be generous with wealth and to help others. He said: "It's one thing to make it – and you've got your own apartment, or house, or car – and you keep it for you. That's not making it. Making it is spreading it." The 'Boom Boom Pow’ star came up with the idea of a scholarship – which covers rent, food and books – after receiving a large pay cheque for deejaying at a private party. He explained to People magazine: "I did the math and I could send three kids to school.' Will.i.am maintains regular email contact with the four students currently in receipt of his scholarship – Elijah Williams , Jaiquann Beckham, and brothers Darien and Barien White, all 19 – and recently invited them to a Black Eyed Peas concert in Philadelphia, where they hung out backstage. In order to keep the quartet focused on their studies, will.i.am has offered them the incentive of a holiday to anywhere they want to go to after they graduate. He told them: "Let's do a little contest where your grades are up and you come with us anywhere on the planet. You just pick a country and we go there. We'll do it for four years." The i.am scholarship fund will offer at least five new scholarships this year, with the chosen students also receiving an internship at the star’s social networking website, Dipdive.com and a job with the site on graduation. | | iDJ This is a where we will tip the next DJ or track they have produced. Dj Profiles: Cosmic Gate Over 10 boundary-pushing years, Nic Chagall and Bossi have evolved Cosmic Gate into one of the most creative and highly-sought-after electronic music acts in the world. Revered uber-producers, their musical acumen has seen them become long-term favorites of the trance's Big 5 DJs with their 4 hugely-received albums transporting anthems like 'Body of Conflict', ,Not Enough Time', 'I Feel Wonderful', ,F.A.V.', 'Analog Feel', or the classics 'Exploration of Space' and Fire Wire to the dance floor. As DJs, their kinetic, blood-pumping live performances are seen by hundreds of thousands of club and festival goers annually. Playing a 100 nights every year, it's this ever-visible club presence that saw them reach their highest position to-date on the DJ Mag Top 100, landing as highest climbers at No.19 in 2009. Following a chance meeting at a label office in Cologne in late 1998, the pair collaborated for the first time. It's a production partnership that has become one of the dance world's most successful and memorable. In their homeland of Germany, they've maintained a consistent level of chart success, with no fewer than 7 Top 40 singles to their name and a Top 10 hit in the UK in 2001, with the quintessential club hit, Fire Wire. Drawing on a broad-range of their individual musical tastes and influences, they've continued to advance and enhance the sound... Following up the long-players 'Rythm & Drums' and 'No More Sleep', in 2006 they released 'Earth Mover', which saw a seismic shift towards a more melodic and electronically orientated music. Including the club hits 'Analog Feel', 'Should Have Known' and 'I Feel Wonderful', the long-player was IDMA nominated for Best Album of 2007 and was latterly seen as a new 'year one' for Cosmic Gate. In 2009 Nic and Bossi released their fourth studio album 'Sign of the Times', which contains 11 floor-monsters, last year's vocal anthem 'Body of Conflict' and the smash single 'Not Enough Time', which in the words of Tiësto is "a great and solid vocal trancer that touches all your musical senses!" And in the broader scale on 'Sign of the Times' Armin van Buuren says "The new Cosmic Gate album is one of the most anticipated releases of this year. They are on the forefront of the dance music sound of the moment... Bring on 2009!" Deck-side Nic and Bossi have whipped floors into frenzies all the way around the world. In 2009 they played the, How Sweet It Is' and, Electronic Daisy Carnival' in LA, rocked roofs at the Judgement Sunday nights and decisively broke into the US and Australian clubbing scenes through a string of sell-out tours, like the, Sign Of The Times' Album Tour with 14 shows in a row in North America and the Godskitchen Tour through Australia in the amazing, Boombox’. They appeared in the DJ Magazine's list of Top 100 spinners for 7 years now and are regular festival attraction, spinning at events like Trance Energy and Mysteryland in The Netherlands, Summadayze in Australia, Germany's Nature One and Stateside at Nocturnal. Back2Back, Cosmic Gate's on-going compilation series was devised as the at-home testament to the pair's club-rocking exploits. In 2010 Cosmic Gate are set to release the 4th volume through Tiësto's Black Hole label. The compilations bring the evocative mix of trance, progressive and electro and stands apart through their use of numerous at-the-time unreleased productions and unique Cosmic Gate edits. | iArtist This is where I get to point you into the direction of some great new talent that has caught my attention: This week The R&B Sensation, Santa Leja - born under the astrological sign of Cancer - Singer/ Songwriter, is naturally gifted with an ability to flawlessly transfer her emotions into songs, whether deep or simply fun, yet still manage to be easily relatable to the listener.
