Sony Abandon CD Promos
On May 1, the major will switch to a digital e-card system for the distribution of promotional music. Sony already uses this digital system for many releases but Sony UK chairman and CEO Ged Doherty reveals that the major will be phasing out the mailing of physical stock at the same time.

“Digital promo is set to become an industry standard as other major and independent music companies also make the switch,” Doherty writes in an email to contacts.

“Physical stock is expensive, difficult to store and environmentally unfriendly. The digital e-card system that we have developed and tested in-house will provide all our partners across radio, television, press and retail with the same sound quality you are used to as well as artist images, pack shots, press clippings and other content to give you a complete picture of each release.”

The use of digital promos is well established within the music industry, with several established systems in use. However, the idea of phasing out the CD has created controversy.

Already David Hepworth, one of the founding partners of Development Hell Ltd, which publishes The Word and MixMag, has spoken out on the move, which he says is “part of a process which is going to see the end of "reviews sections" in magazines as we have known them”.

“I know all the arguments about the decline of physical product but this move shows that record companies don't understand what goes on in the head of a hack that gets scores of new records every day, most of them by people he's never heard of,” he writes on his blog (http://whatsheonaboutnow.blogspot.com/).

“I'm sure there are lots of good reasons for Sony making this move. Should send a shiver through the Jiffy Bag business for a start. I also predict that within a year when they want reviewers to take notice of something they'll start sending out copies again.”

Creamfields Gets Three-Year License
Creamfields Festival has been granted a three-year license for its festival site in Daresbury, the first ever dance festival to receive an extended year license.

The event, which scooped the award for best dance festival in the 2009 UK Festival Awards, was granted the license last night by Halton Borough Council’s regulatory committee.

Following last year’s sell-out show which attracted a record 60,000 people from across the UK, organizers have increased investment into site infrastructure for 2010, which will see bigger and better arenas and increased space and capacity in the campsite areas.

Event Manager Jim King says, “[This] clearly shows the confidence that the authorities have in Creamfields and its management team. The festival has now established itself at its new location in Cheshire as one of the largest, most popular and well operated electronic festivals in the world.”

In 2006 Creamfields relocated from Liverpool to its new Daresbury home in the heart of the Cheshire countryside, and to coincide with its 10th Anniversary celebrations became a two-day camping show in 2008. The lineup for this year’s festival, which will be held over the August Bank Holiday weekend, will be announced soon.

Isle of Wight Festival Announces…
That the legendary Paul McCartney will be headlining the Main Stage on Sunday 13 June bringing this year’s festival, which takes place from 11-13 June, to a spectacular close.

Renowned the world over, Paul McCartney awoke a generation giving a fresh sound to rock n’ roll, changing the face of music forever, first with The Beatles and then as a critically acclaimed solo artist. Across a career that has spanned over 30 years, he’s penned some of the most famous tracks ever written, including 'Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’, 'Live and Let Die’ and 'I Saw Her Standing There’, meaning this year’s festival-goers will be in for something truly special as this living legend performs a rousing set.

Paul McCartney says: 'I always remember hearing such great things about this festival and it has such a sense of history with the likes of Jimi Hendrix playing there the first time round. This will be my first show on the Isle of Wight and I’m looking forward to a rollicking night of rock n’ roll'.

Festival promoter John Giddings adds: 'Forty years after Jimi Hendrix performed 'Hey Joe’ at Seaclose Park we’ve finally gotten to 'Hey Jude’. I can’t wait!'

Paul’s live shows have reached a new legendary status in recent years garnering unprecedented reviews from fans and critics alike wherever he goes. He’s pushed boundaries, performed to millions and made global news with monumental shows including performances in Red Square, Russia, outside the Coliseum in Rome, performing live to a NASA space station and the largest outdoor show ever in the Ukraine.

The UK got a recent taste for Paul’s live show last Christmas when he bought his 2009 'Good Evening Europe’ tour to a climatic and memorable finale at London’s 02 Arena, his only UK show of 2009. Reviews for the show were phenomenal and prove that Paul McCartney is a live experience that no one should miss.

This special show at the Isle of Wight Festival is part of Paul’s all new 'Up And Coming’ tour which starts in the US in March and comes to the UK and Ireland in June.

In addition to Paul McCartney, other world-class artists performing on Sunday’s Main Stage include Pink, Editors, Spandau Ballet and Friendly Fires. Across the course of the weekend over 45 acts will take to the stage including Jay-Z, Blondie, The Strokes, Florence + The Machine, Biffy Clyro, Crowded House, Paloma Faith, Mr. Hudson, Orbital, La Roux, Marina and the Diamonds and many more.

Who is DJ Fake Blood? Why So Much Hype?
Wearing a mask 24/7 is not going to reveal his true identity. Maybe hire a PI to follow him around, hoping to snap a photo when he finally takes a shower or meets his parents. He’s from the same label as Sinden and Herve. He has similar production style as Herve so it may be him
